    Andrew Chandler

I have always had a calling to help individuals in need and counseling is another way that I can accomplish this. I am not just helping to work through a situation, but also equipping you with tools that can be used in building your future. Counseling can be intimidating as this is a very personal experience. However, investing in yourself will grant you a return that can last a lifetime. My counseling approach is genuine, organic, and goal directed, as I genuinely want you to succeed. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples. My passion is providing a safe, accepting, and non judgmental environment that promotes you as an individual, while uncovering your strengths. This is a journey where you are in control and my role is to provide guidance, direction and support as you navigate through the storm and experience change.

    My Education and Experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner and Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider and have been working in this field since 2002. I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology & Psychology from Emory and Henry College, master’s degree in Counseling from Longwood University. I also completed post graduate education from Virginia Commonwealth University in Rehabilitation Counseling with a specialization in Substance Abuse and completed training for Juvenile and Adult Forensic Evaluation through the Institute of Law, Psychiatry, and Public Policy at the University of Virginia.

I have also received specialized training in several treatment modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy & Skills Training (DBT), Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Exposure & Response Prevention Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), Motivational Interviewing, and Crisis Intervention.

Prior to coming into private practice, I gained clinical experience in several areas by holding positions in different treatment settings. This experience includes: working as a Psychiatric Emergency Clinician, providing emergency evaluations in the ER, Outpatient Therapist and Clinical Supervisor with local community agencies, working with all age groups, Counselor at a Residential Treatment Center for children and adolescents, Psychology Associate for the Virginia Department of Corrections and have also gained experience working as a Child Protective Services Investigator.

Through receiving education, training and experience, I am now able to implement these unique approaches to provide clinically rooted, creative interventions. I work with children, adolescents and adults, providing support and help through many issues including, but not limited to: Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, Self-Esteem, Behavioral Issues, Addiction & Recovery, Substance Abuse, Trauma (physical, emotional, sexual abuse), Self-Harm, Grief/Loss, Relationship issues, Work-related stress and more.

I will continue to pursue continuing educational and training opportunities to support increased efficacy of treatment and improved outcomes for the individuals that I serve.
